Certificate Signing Request (CSR) Generation Instructions for Plesk 10

Solution ID:    SO16507    Updated:    07/24/2013

This document provide CSR generation instructions for Plesk 10. If you are not able to perform the steps on the server, RapidSSL recommends to contact a company that supports Plesk.

NOTE: To generate a CSR, you will need to create a key pair for your server. These two items are a digital certificate key pair and cannot be separated. If you lose your public/private key file or your password and generate a new one, your SSL Certificate will no longer match.

NOTE: All certificates that will expire after October 2013 must have a 2048 bit key size.

To generate a Certificate Signing Request using Plesk 10, perform the following steps:

    1.    Open the Plesk Panel
    2.    Please select “Tools & Utilities”.
    3.    Choose the SSL certificates option
    4.    Click Add SSL Certificate

5.    Under Certificate, specify a name for the SSL certificate
    6.    Under Settings, the Distinguished Name (DN) information for the certificate needs to be entered.

  • The Bit length must be at least 2048 bits.
  • Enter the Country, where the Organization has been registered
  • Enter your State or Province. This field must be spelled out and cannot be abbreviated
  • Enter your Organization (company) name under which the domain name has been registered
  • Enter a Department or Division of the Organization, for example: IT
  • Enter the Domain name. This is also known as the Common Name of the certificate. This is typically the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) such as example.netsure.net

    7.    Enter an email address.

    8.    Click Request
    9.    The next window should indicate that a New SSL certificate has been added.

  10.     A Private Key and Public Key (CSR) have been created
  11.    The SSL Certificates window should refresh and under Certificates
the Certificate Name provided in Step 5 should appear.
NOTE: There are helpful icons that show the progress of the process. At this point
R (CSR part supplied) and K (Private key part supplied) should be complete icons:

  12.     Locate the CSR file by clicking on the Certificate Name

   13.    The Change Properties of SSL Certificate window will appear
   14.    Scroll down and locate the CSR on this page and copy the contents
including the -----BEGIN----- and ----END----- lines.

   15.    To avoid formatting issues, it is recommended to paste the contents
into a plain text editor such as Notepad.
   16.    Paste the CSR into the certificate enrollment form when required.

Once the certificate has been issued, refer to this link for installation instructions: SO18014
